The main indexes were trading down on Friday amid volatility, with the Sensex down around 396.11 points or 0.63% at 62,888.08 and the Nifty down 116.45 points or 0.62% at 18,696.05.
Indusind Bank, Tata Steel, and Reliance Industries were the top Sensex gainers, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, and Asian Paints were the top Sensex losers.
The sectoral indexes traded in a mixed manner, with the BSE Auto Index being the top losing sector and the BSE Realty Index being the top winning sector. The Sobha Limited and India Bulls Real Estate Ltd-led BSE Realty Index increased by 0.51%, while the Eicher Motors Ltd.- and Mahindra & Mahindra-driven BSE Auto Index declined by 0.34%.
The indexes traded higher in the wider markets, with the BSE Midcap index and BSE Smallcap index both up by 0.42% and 0.43%, respectively. The top mid-cap stocks were Varun Beverages Ltd. and BHEL Ltd., while the top small-cap stocks were Skipper Ltd. and Punjab & Sind Bank.
