The local benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty got off to a good start on the final trading day of the year, aided by notable purchasing in the metal and power sectors amid a general upward trend in global equities.
The S&P BSE Sensex, the barometer index, increased by 100 points at 11:20 IST and is now trading at a level of 61,234. A level of 25,368 is now being traded for the S&P BSE Mid-Cap, which has also increased by 147 points. The Small-Cap index is currently trading at 29,012 levels and is trading in the green, up 304 points.
The Nifty 50 index is currently trading at 18,222 levels, up just 31 points. On the other hand, the Bank Nifty has lost 159 points and is currently trading at a level of 43,092.
On December 29, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were the net purchases of shares worth 515.83 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) came out to be the net sellers of shares worth 572.78 crore.
